Nell’ultimo GP della stagione 2018 sul tracciato italiano di Imola, brillano Michele Cervellin e Simone Furlotti.

Dopo il TT Circuit di Assen, il mondiale MXGP approda su un altro storico circuito: il Dino e Enzo Ferrari di Imola. La differenza fra le due strutture è il terreno di gara. Sabbioso in Olanda, duro in Italia. In questo ultimo GP del Mondiale 2018, l’obiettivo del Team SM Action Yamaha è la conquista della settima posizione finale nella classifica generale della MX2. Posizione che vede Michele Cervellin ad un punto da Jago Geerts che, vista la qualifica di ieri, non sembra trovarsi a suo agio qui a Imola.
Invece Michele Cervellin ha colto un ottimo sesto posto e molta convinzione nel raggiungere l’obiettivo. Restando alla gara di qualifica, Simone Furlotti termina 18° mentre Alvin Ostlund è costretto al ritiro per una caduta di gruppo subito dopo il via. Al via di gara uno un eccezionale Simone Furlotti prende la testa e per due giri comanda le danze. Viene passato da Lawrence e da Prado ma il parmense tiene un buon ritmo. Un ritmo che cala soltanto nel finale ma la TOP TEN è sua.
Molto buona la prova di Michele Cervellin che dalla sesta posizione rimonta fino alla quarta scavalcando momentaneamente Jago Geerts nella classifica generale. Alvin Ostlund, non ancora al meglio fisicamente, riesce a conquistare il 20° posto con una mini rimonta dalla 29° piazza.

Si va quindi al cancello di partenza di gara due con Michele Cervellin che ha la possibilità di lottare per il podio ma, soprattutto, quella di finire il campionato settimo assoluto. Geerts gli parte davanti ma Miky747 gli è alle spalle. Sembra una partita persa, Michele scivola 10° mentre Geerts è 8° ma il vicentino, con caparbietà, inizia a spingere mentre il suo rivale indietreggia. Il sorpasso avviene a metà gara e da quel momento non c’è storia. Cervellin chiude 7°, Geerts 11°. Il settimo posto assoluto è suo e tutto il Team festeggia con lui.
Questa volta Simone Furlotti non parte bene come nella prima manche. 18° al primo giro, Simone non trova la forza di reagire e chiude la sua gara 19°. Alvin Ostlund, dopo quattro giri fatti nelle retrovie, prende la via dei box.
Quella del Team SM Action Yamaha è stata una stagione impegnativa ma ripagata alla grande dai risultati ottenuti. Nel mondiale il Team ha ottenuto il settimo posto finale con Cervellin e si è confermato il miglior Team Privato dopo le squadre ufficiali. Nell’Italiano Prestige sempre Cervellin si è laureato Campione mentre Simone Furlotti ha chiuso alle sue spalle.
Però la stagione non è finita. Mentre scriviamo il Team è al lavoro per lo smontaggio della Yamaha di Cervellin per la spedizione in America dove il prossimo fine settimana si disputerà il Motocross of Nations.

Michele Cervellin and Simone Furlotti shined inthe last GP of the Season
After the Ducth TT Circuit of Assen, another historical location hosted the MXGP World Championship: the Dino and Enzo Ferrari track of Imola. The main difference between these two circuits is the surface. It was sandy in Holland and hard in Italy. For this last GP of the 2018 World Championship, the aim of Team SM Action Yamaha was to conquer the 7th place in the final General Classification of MX2. Michele Cervellin had only one point of gap from Jago Geerts who, after Qualification Race, did not seem to feel comfortable at Imola. Cervellin, instead, finished in 6th place and looked very focused to hit the target. In Qualification Race Simone Furlotti finished 18th while Alvin Ostlund was forced to retire after a group crash that happened at the start.
At the beginning of Race 1 an excellent Simone Furlotti took the lead and kept it for two laps. He was then overtaken by Lawrence and Prado but he kept a good pace. His pace went down only in the final part of the race but he was already in the TOP TEN with no worries. Very good performance for Michele Cervellin, who moved up from the 6th to the 4th place, and at that moment he also overtook Jago Geerts in the General Classification. Alvin Ostlund, who was still not at the best of the condition, managed to finish 20th after a little recovery from the 29th place.
Michele Cervellin went to the gate of Race 2 with the chance to fight for the podium but mainly to finish the Championship in 7th place. Geerts started in front of him, but Miki747 was at his back. At one point it looked like a lost match, when Michele slided to the 10th place and Geerts was 8th but from that moment the rider from Vicenza started to push even more while his rival was losing speed. The overtake happened at half of the race and from then, there was no match anymore. Cervellin finished 7th and Geerts 11th. The final 7th place in the Championship was conquered and Michele and the Team celebrated together.
This time Simone Furlotti did not start as well as in Race 1. He was 18th after the first lap and he did not find the strength to react, so he finished 19th. Alvin Ostlund, after four laps spent in the back of the group, went to the box.
Team SM Action Yamaha had a challenging season but everything was paid back by the results. In the World Championship the Team finished 7th with Michele Cervellin and it confirmed to be the best private Team after the officials. In the Italian Prestige Championship Cervellin was the Champion while Furlotti finished just behind him.
The season, though, has not ended yet. While we are typing, the Team is working to disassemble Michele’s Yamaha and send it to America, where the Motocross of Nations will take place next weekend.
